Ironic that in a season when young designers are riffing on American themes, Ralph Lauren — let’s call him the Captain America of fashion — opted for a Far Eastern journey. Namely, the Orient. It made for a dramatic collection, starting with the lacquer-black runway.

While he worked in a neutral palette of cool grays and shades of camel, pops of teal and purple looked especially cool in the lineup and were a great complement to the muted tones. A teal sweater and wrap skirt looked especially effortless and chic.
